Dyer Engineering launches Christmas Charity Appeal in partnership with ASDA

11th December 2020

Smarter, Stronger and making a difference Together: We’re aiming to bring our own Christmas cheer to those who need it most this festive season.

At the end of a long, hard 2020 for millions of people across the country, we believe it’s important to dig deep and give back this Christmas. That’s why the team at Dyer Engineering have teamed up with ASDA’s Stanley store to support two local charities with food collections and toy donations through the festive period.

Between now and the 18th December we will be collecting for the Trussell Trust – the charity dedicated to putting an end to food hunger in the UK through food banks – and The Salvation Army’s Toy Appeal.

With the help of our friends at ASDA, we’ve taken delivery of festive-themed trollies in which to collect kind donations from our staff and the broader community. This will help to provide vital provisions for those less fortunate than ourselves, enabling them to enjoy a happier Christmas after a period of real hardship.

According to The Trussell Trust, this winter it is expected that 61% more food parcels will be needed in the UK this year, compared to last year. That reflects the extent of the challenges that have been felt by families through the pandemic. With unemployment rising sharply and many people struggling to make ends meet, millions of households in Britain have found themselves in a more desperate position than ever before. In fact, during the first six months of the pandemic, 2,600 emergency food parcels were needed every single day for children to prevent starvation.

As a business, we are thankful that there has been a continued demand for Northeast fabrication specialists through the course of the pandemic and that we find ourselves in a fortunate position at the end of 2020. But we feel it is important that we play our part in supporting the local community and helping to ensure that no one goes hungry or is without those basic essentials through the festive season and beyond.

This year’s charity campaign is being led by Dyer Engineering’s Business Development Manager, Lee Farms, and Office Manager, Angela McVittie.

Lee Farms told us,

“Dyer Engineering has always been passionate about supporting the local community and playing our role in the region. At times like this it is more crucial than ever that we pull together to support those around us and ensure that, even in times of great difficulty, no one in the UK has to worry about starvation.

“Christmas should also be about joy, and so we are supporting the Salvation Army’s Toy Appeal to help put a smile back on the faces of local children with toys and gifts that will help to lift their mood.”

As well as supporting these two fantastic causes internally at Dyer Engineering, we are encouraging everyone to do their bit this Christmas. The easiest way to support our two fantastic charities is to donate online. It only takes 2 minutes and every pound is put to good use.
